Nongstoin is the headquarters of West Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya. Pope Benedict XVI covering the entire district erected a diocese here in 2006.. Since 2015, the annual Nongkhnum Festival is held at Nongkhnum River Island. Since the festival is organized with Swach Bharat, it aims to create awareness about cleanliness and the event is a plastic free zone. Kshaid Langshiang Waterfall is located at he borders of west-southwest Khasi Hills in Kynshi River. It is an enthralling sight and trekking to this waterfall is one of the best experiences. The Weina waterfalls has a small park near it, which has become a favourite picnic spot. The Kyllang Rock located in the West Khasi Hills is a peculiar rock made out of red granite. The rock, which is 5400 ft above sea level with a width of about1000ft, is a mammoth block of granite. In local folklore, it is the brother of Sympher rock in Weiloi in Mawsynram. Another folklore narrates about a man, wife and child turned into a complete rock. The top of the rock can be reached by stairs and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding area. The Mawthadrasian peak is a beautiful peak at an altitude of about 1800 meters above sea level.
