Nongkhnum Island

Nongkhnum Island

This is the second largest river island in Asia located about 15km from Nongstoin town in West Khasi Hills district. It is encircled by the Kynshi River on the west and south and river Namiliang on the north and east and has a few beautiful waterfalls in its vicinity. This petite town is located to the North of the East Khasi Hills. Situated very close to the gorgeous Brahmaputra plains, this is a favourite location as a stopover before reaching Shillong from Guwahati. The island has a beautiful sand beach and the place offers many different activities to the tourists such as camping, boating fishing etc. A road has been constructed recently, which lands you straight in the sandy beach; the older way of reaching was rather long winded but was far more attractive. It serves as a perfect spot for all the nature lovers who seek relief from the daily routines of a hectic city life. The breathtaking scenic beauty and the tranquil atmosphere makes it a hot spot for the tourists.
